Why?

In 1995, I biked solo from Inuvik, NWT to Prince Rupert, BC to St. John's, NL: 10,400 kms in 80 days.

I really enjoyed the experience, but realized that with lighter equipment and longer days, I could cross the country even faster. It became a goal for the future to cross from Vancouver to Halifax in 30 days.

In 2002, at the age of 34, I was diagnosed with diabetes. After much initial fear, education and readjustment, I took back control of my health and resumed a very active lifestyle. I felt strongly compelled to push my physical limits in order to draw attention to this disease. Cycling seemed like an activity everyone could relate to and research showed that a Dane, Erik Straarup, held the unsupported Vancouver-St. John's biking record. It became my new goal to beat his time of 27 days, 5 hrs & 30 min.

Here's my route, my blog, and how you can help.
